Interview: Zeenia Dastur

Name: Zeenia Dastur

Occupation / Business / Creative Outlet: MSc Environment, Politics & Development Student at SOAS University of London / Meditation Teacher

Location:  Derawun land

Star sign: Gemini

What is your creative practice?: Meditation

What are three rituals that you perform regularly, to keep you present?: Nadi Shodhana Breathing Technique (5 mins) / 30-60 mins daily meditation / Yoga Asana - 20-30 mins

What is your most essential ritual belonging – i.e. a favourite product or belonging that is part of your ritual practices?: My satya white sage incense  cleanses the air and always leaves a beautiful lingering scent in the air. This paired with my rose quartz stone provides my space with clarity and love all day long.

Can you share your soundtrack for stillness – i.e. a favourite song that reminds you to be present?: By your side - Sade - it reminds me that someone is always by my side, supporting me and guiding me. I think about that person being myself. It reminds me that the person that I am looking for and need is myself.

What does inviting a sense of ritual add to your daily life and/or creative practices?: Rituals are a great way of honouring my body and my individual needs. A ritual is personal to me and thus the practices and objects that are a part of it makes that time of day so special and a fundamental part of my self-care and well-being.
